We believe strongly in the importance of the family in God’s design for our world. We seek to build up the family through the power of God’s Word and Holy Spirit in Worship, Holy Communion, and Bible study. We provide ways for families to support each other in service and fellowship activities together. We also are God’s family together here at Trinity Lutheran Church. We invite all people, single or married, with or without children, young or old, large or small, of all colors and cultures, to be a vital part of God’s family in Jesus.
As members of some 6,100 congregations, we count 2.6 million baptized members of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod. We emphasize the local congregation. That’s where people are touched one-to-one. That is where the Word is taught, where our sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper sustain our life with God.
Our synod — our national organization — serves in support of and on behalf of its local member congregations. Support includes Sunday School lessons, Hymn Books, resources for ministry, worship material and channeling congregational gifts into worldwide mission work. Local churches receive help for special areas of ministry to serve people in both the congregation and the community.
Lutherans build their lives on Jesus Christ. They believe Jesus Christ is the only, perfect son of God. They believe that Jesus died for them and for every person in the world. Lutherans also believe that Jesus rose from the dead and lives for them — and for all people who believe in him as their Savior.
Lutherans live with a sure hope of eternal life because of Jesus Christ. They know they’re not perfect, that they stumble and fall in their daily walk with God. But they also know that their forgiveness has been won and paid for by Jesus Christ and they repent to that forgiveness.
Lutherans often refer to three “solas” (Latin for “alone”) as a summary of the faith that gives them hope.
Scripture Alone — The Bible is the only source that shows God’s will.
Grace Alone — Scripture teaches us that God loves the world, even though we do not deserve His love. He sent His Son to love the unlovely and to save the ungodly.
Faith Alone — Jesus has provided for our forgiveness and life; those who hear this promise and believe it, have what it offers. God gives us His faith in His grace through His scriptures.
In 1969 a group of 33 people gathered in a private home for the first church service held in St. George. After that service they began meeting every second Sunday for services in a rented motel room. Then the Lord opened an unusual door, the local Parish Priest allowed them to meet in the Catholic Parish Hall. As 1970 ended they hit a “snag.” The Lutherans were no longer allowed to use the facilities and their Pastor’s Ministry in St. George closed chapter one and moved on. In 1975, the congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church of Southern Utah was formed. Services were held in Cedar City. In 1977, because of interest and growth in St. George, the Pastor from Cedar City agreed to conduct one service per month in St George. Trinity Lutheran Church in St. George was formed in 1978. The first building was dedicated in August 1981. The first addition was dedicated in June 1990. A Christian Day School opened in the fall of 1993. The school addition was dedicated in May 1997. Because of the faith and efforts of those pioneers the doors of Trinity Lutheran Church and School are open.
